Visit Montreux &Chillon; castle Visit the Nestle Chocolate factory Orientation Tour of Bern

Today, we check out and drive towards is the magnificent resort of Montreux, spectacularly located on the shores of Lake Geneva. We visit the Chillon Castle. Reference to the castle is first made in 1150, whenit is said that the Counts of Savoy controlled it, important reconstruction and enlargement works were carried out on the castle in stages, initiated by Count Thomas I of Savoy (1189-1233) and his four sons. However, it was Lord Byron who was to invest Chillon with a mythical dimension, when in 1816, whilst on a pilgrimage to the places described by Rousseau, he wrote his famous poem The prisoner of Chillon. This account magnifies the sufferings of François Bonivard (1493-1570), prior of Saint-Victor in Geneva, who was held captive in Chillon because of his opposition to the Savoyards and was subsequently liberated by the Bernese. We then take you to discover the process of chocolate manufacturing and the odours that come from it in the famous MaisonCailler (Nestlé) chocolate factory in Broc. Here you will realize the secrets of chocolate manufacturing inside this operating factory. The visit also traces the history of the factory from 1898 to the present. We then continue our next stop Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Bern is the only Swiss city to be accorded World Heritage status.
